Daily Prayer Guide: Day 22

Praying for Your City’s Homeless

If you live in a larger city, you doubtless see homeless people - sleeping in doorways, sitting on park benches, rummaging in garbage dumpsters, holding out cups on street corners. Most people are compassionate, and some put a few coins in their cups with the feeling, "What else can I do to help them?” Many city churches reach out to homeless people in various ways. Church volunteers or staff may receive walk-ins, listen to their story of need and do what they can to help. Many churches know community agencies for referral of needy people. These agencies may provide housing, meals, food, job referrals, counsel, friendship for the homeless. Most of the needy want some kind of temporary help. Few want long term treatment and rehabilitation. Jesus made an astounding statement in describing God’s end time judgment of the “sheep” (those who DID in their lives what He wanted) and the “goats” (those who did NOT do what God wanted). He said that those who fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, gave lodging to the homeless, clothed the naked, cared for the sick, visited prisoners, were ministering personally to HIM. Let’s PRAY then for God to work His purposes in His people, and for helping the homeless in your city’s communities:
