Our Leadership

The Pittsburgh Experiment is a Christian non-denominational effort, which is led by a group of dedicated volunteers. These individuals form a Board of Trustees and are charged with working with the Executive Director to set goals, establish priorities and implement initiatives and programs.

Board of Trustees


Jack Thomas

Jack is a Senior Vice President and Internal Audit Director with PNC Bank.  He is a graduate of Grove City College with a degree in Accounting.  Jack is a Certified Public Accountant and has over twenty-five years of experience in the financial services industry.  He is actively involved in several industry organizations in addition to having served Young Life over twenty years in various volunteer leadership and committee roles.  Jack has served on the board of Waterdam Church EFCA and is serving currently on the board of Adam’s Quest.  He and his wife live in the South Hills with their two children. 


Dan Daly

Dan is a Senior Director of Enterprise Data Management for National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit organization that provides data services to schools throughout the U.S. He has been a data management professional for 25 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Penn State Erie and received a Masters of Business Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Dan and his wife, Linda, lived in Cincinnati for twelve years before returning to their home town of Pittsburgh in 2008. While in Cincinnati, Dan served as a City Councilman for the city of Loveland, OH for seven years, and served as the President of the Community Improvement Corporation and was a member of the Business Advisory Council. Dan is also an assistant Troop Leader for Boy Scouts of America Troop 4 in Upper St. Clair. Dan and his wife homeschool their four children and are actively involved in the ministry at Zion Lutheran Church in Brentwood, PA, where Dan is the current Chair of the Benevolent Memorial Fund committee and previously served as Vice President of the Council of Elders. Dan is part of the Thursday Steel Building lunch group.


Rachel Heins Carlson

Rachel works as a Senior Marketing Manager in the medical device space. She has a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a MS in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. Rachel is the President of the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair and the Gilfillan Farm. Rachel, her husband Matt and their two little ones attend Jesus Fellowship Church in Bethel Park, PA. Rachel is helping start and lead the new RIDC group.


Mike Hoffman

Mike is an Executive Search Consultant with The Judson Group. He has a BA from Villanova University and an MS from Duquesne University. Mike and his wife, Christy, have 4 children and live in Mt Lebanon. They are parishioners at St. John Capistran. Mike is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP©) and has been involved in several charitable endeavors. He is currently a Board Member of the Mt. Lebanon Community Foundation. Mike is part of the Thursday Steel Building lunch group and has brought numerous new attendees.


Tammy Spencer Bey

Tammy is a Business Analyst Consultant Specialist in BNY Mellon’s HR Technology Solutions group. She’s currently leading the Performance Platform system integration. Tammy started her professional career as a billing representative at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2004. She quickly gained recognition and moved up the career ladder where she landed in e-Bill as a Business Analyst Sr. Tammy has over 15 year experience in a varied set of business disciplines including business analysis, project management, system implementation, and consulting. Tammy is passionate about giving back, making a difference and being a role model in the communities of which she works and lives. Tammy wants to see Pittsburgh turn the tide with diversity and inclusion. She mentors young adults as well as colleagues along with being a mentee herself. Tammy serves on a few boards within the Pittsburgh Area: Focus on Renewal, I Carry My Sister’s Heart (ICMSH), Pennsylvania’s Women Work Community Advisory Board, and the River’s Club Community Engagement Committee. She hopes that she will be able to have an impact within and throughout this region. Tammy was chosen as one of Pittsburgh’s 40 under 40 and Pittsburgh’s Women of Excellence award recipients as a recognition of career accomplishments, volunteer work, and commitment to the Pittsburgh region. Tammy was born and raised in Bethel Park. She now resides in Kennedy Township with her husband Barata Bey. Outside of work, she enjoys playing golf, softball, spending time with her adult daughters, family and friends and attends Macedonia Church of Pittsburgh. Tammy is part of the Thursday Steel Building lunch group.


Jason Smith

Jason and his family live in New Rochelle, New York. Jason is a Consultant with The FOCUS Group, serving Kingdom building nonprofits with consulting resources on fundraising. Jason’s wife Kristin is a Special Education teacher and is gifted working with the deaf population. Jason and family attend The Life Church (New York campus) and serves in a variety of volunteer roles there. Jason also volunteers as a mentor with the New Rochelle Courts in the Opportunity Youth Part where he mentors a 21 year old who is working through a criminal conviction. Jason loves to connect people he admires to each other for their mutual benefit.


JASON LISTAK

Jason is an aftermarket Engineering Manager for a bulk material original equipment manufacturer Heyl & Patterson Equipment located in Southpointe. He attends church at East End Assembly of God in Bloomfield. He enjoys most of his free time with his wife, daughter, and two sons. Jason helped start and currently facilitates the Southpointe PX group.


JOE Ryczaj

Joe is a City of Pittsburgh Policeman. He is an active member of Grace Church in Cranberry. Joe can trace his spiritual roots to our Thursday Downtown lunch group, where he is still an active member.


BRETT HAMMON

Brett is a freelance videographer in Pittsburgh. He went to West Virginia University where he volunteered as Young Life leader at a local high school. After graduating from WVU in 2007 with an English degree, he went on staff with Young Life for 5 years and worked in NC, SC and Pittsburgh. After leaving staff in 2012, he a moved to Los Angeles where he discovered his love for film. Brett moved back to Pittsburgh in 2018, lives in Carnegie and is part of the Thursday afternoon Oxford Market lunch group downtown.


Trustees Emeritus
